"VPD Emergency Service Unit Training at City Hall"
2014-09-05 from City Manager’s Bi-Weekly Report, Vol. 2, No. 23, by Daniel E. Keen, City Manager:
On Labor Day, the Vallejo Police Department Emergency Service Unit con-ducted a training event at City Hall. The Emergency Service Unit is composed of the SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiations Team and the Tactical Dispatch Team. All three teams were presented with a scenario of an armed suspect inside City Hall with several hostages. The teams worked through the scenario and suc-cessfully negotiated a peaceful resolution. The scenario portion was from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.
During an afternoon training session, mem-bers of the SWAT Team practiced moving throughout the entire building. City Hall of-fered a variety of different sized rooms, long hallways and stairwells for the team to train on. The ESU Team has been using other sites in Vallejo, includ-ing, the Solano County Court House and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.
The ESU Commander, Lieutenant John Whitney, was pleased with the team’s performance and is looking forward to using City Hall for other future exercises.
